Song Review: Beer by Reel Big Fish

Another great ska song! A ska song about love.... and drinking. The opening solo is great and it perfectly fits the song, the moment I listened to this song. And as a bass player, I think this song has a basic bassline for ska song but it fits perfectly. Definitely recommend purchasing Reel Big Fish's greatest hits, if you are new to ska or want a place to start on ska.

Song Review: Brain On Ska by Mustard Plug

This is a great song by a great ska band, Mustard Plug. This song is very catchy, and it is full of energy, it is great. The only bad thing about it is that the song only clocks in at about 2 minutes. I would definitely recommend to listen to this song, very good stuff.

First Review: "Mustard Plug" and their album "Big Daddy Multitude"

The band Mustard Plug is my personal favorite ska band. They are a bunch of dudes from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are a blast to see in concert, so much energy just emits from them. I can listen to all 6 of their albums and I won't get bored of any of their material, its just all so great.

My personal favorite album by them is "Big Daddy Multitude" all the songs are great, ranging from the upbeat "Skank By Numbers" to the mildly serious "Mr Smiley" to the laughable "Thigh High Nylons" to the energetic "Brain on Ska." Each track is unique and I cannot skip over any single track, they are all great.

Key Tracks: Mr Smiley, Brain on Ska, Skank by Numbers

Expect to see more of these guys ;)

Welcome to My Ska Blog and Some "Slight" Background

Welcome to my ska music blog. Each day I will be posting a review of a ska song or album, or possibly a ska band.

Ska is a type of music that is the precursor to  reggae, and with the somewhat modern 3rd wave ska, ska has been brought back up in a very upbeat punk form. Ska is a very underground genre of music, the only two hits that were ska is "Sell Out" by Reel Big Fish and "The Impression I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. This whole genre of music has horns and that is what turns punk into ska.

About Me: I am a bass player, who aspires to be in a local ska band in a year or two.
